Higher expectations and lower results.

Disappointment; setbacks, we all have heard enough stories about it. But real fun is when we experience it.

Most or maybe all of us have and will experience that we expected a lot believing in ourselves while we ended up barely meeting any of our expectations, when our work was judged by the “masters”.

How did you feel when you were told, you do not qualify for something really you wanted bad? How did you cope when you realized what you thought you had a lot was barely a handful? How was it to live in a moment watching everything you believed in and dreamed of was just your misunderstanding while reality is totally different? Did you let go what you hold for so long just because you could not do it right? Did you start walking leaving the person behind who believed in you the most?

DISAPPOINTMENT (Spiritual Sticky)

So many stories you may have read by now that tells you to fight back. Did they ever make any difference to you, when you really felt disappointed?

Whether you realized or not I know they did help you. They helped you to stay calm for a bit. They helped you to get up again and fight. If I drive this thought a bit towards business I remember a quote I read last night from Henry Ford.

“I do not believe a man can ever leave his business. He ought to think of it by day and dream of it by night.”

That must tell you that even if there was a time you left something behind thinking, you cannot do it right or as good as others, there will be a time when you will get back to do the same. You may not get over your setback in a day or two but may be in next 38 years or so, you will.

You will never take apart what makes you “YOU”.

Remember, no matter what they say but at the end of the day, you only answer yourself. You do what feels good to you, and you do it in a way that suites you the best.

Am I Racist?

One day a boy came crying to his grandfather.

The worrying grandfather asked, “What is the matter son?”

The boy replied in between the sobs, “My friend called me racist.”

The old man was shocked and trying to calm down his grandson he started talking, “Listen son, your friend Juan is Mexican. Aslam is a Muslim. Christina is Black. Peter is Scottish. Now, you all play together. You all go to one another’s house and equally treated by the parents. Neither we nor their family has any problems with that. In fact we all welcome everyone just the same way. We greet and meet everyone equally. Racism is nowhere near us okay. So, do not even say this again that you are racist. I wonder why after all you said that, where did you hear that from? Who called you racist?”

The boy said, “My friend-Juan, Aslam and Christina. They called me a racist just now. They all decided to race with each other and I did not want to race because last time I fell down and hurt myself really bad. So, they called me racist.”

The old man was touched by the innocence of the kids and got lost staring into nothingness.

It is terrible when the innocence is interfered by reality. But it could be even more disturbing in a good way when indifference is touched by innocence.

Say no to Racism. And Olympics 2012 is knocking on the door so say yes to more RACES.

Mondays of light and dark

The following is dedicated specially to “Monday”.

Everybody duck; Monday is here; don’t let it see you. Shake off that laziness and back to work you go or school. Whatever that is you are doing in current state of life. Remember that Bangles song? “Just another Manic Monday.”

Manic Monday

So, here is an interesting thing to lead you to the part where it feels like it was worth viewing this page, a coin. The coin is something that holds two totally different sides that will never be noticed by each other, even though being on a same body. There are barely few such things out there in the world that holds two controversial sides to each other yet belong in a same body. One of those is the most amazing creation of God. That is a human body.

A human body holds two things, Light and Darkness. I am not just talking about the part that from outside it feels the light and inside its all dark. I am talking about our most precious assets heart and mind.

God made our body with bones; muscles; tissues and lots of cells. The muscles are capable to bring us towards the light. Light here refers to the strength to work hard. God designed our body in such a way that the more we train our body to work harder the longer we can keep going. Keeping healthy is a key here.God also gave us mind and heart. This heart sometimes has its own funny business going on when it is broken. That is when it makes us see only the darkness. We forget absolutely about the light, because when heart is broken we only feel the darkness. Worse than that is our brain.

A powerful light shines in the dark.

Like it says up there this article is dedicated to Monday, this brain of ours is our enemy when Monday shows up. Every time your body tries to bring you towards the light of hard work and progress, sometimes it is this brain being all lazy and not letting the body do its job. That is why it causes the darkness. It directly becomes an enemy of working hard or getting out of bed and starting to do over the things after two days of fun. Do not let this darkness get to you.

There are ways to start a good smiley Monday. Crack a joke with your barista in the morning.

When he/she says, “here’s your coffee”.

You say, “Thanks a latte”.

Last Monday I tried this it works perfect. This girl hands me my coffee and asks me, “Would you like your receipt, sir?”

I took a sip of my coffee and said, “Depends what is your return policy.”

Luckily she gets the funny side of it and there is a light laughter cracking up. Even the woman behind me heard and smiled. That start of the day felt so good, that feeling of goodness stayed with me till I was done working. Some of you may find there is no joke in it, which is okay because most of the people I told that joke later on to, didn’t find it funny either.

A photo of a cup of coffee. Esperanto: Taso de...

The point is to give it a happy try to start with, shaking off all the laziness and there you have it.

Good luck!!! Make people laugh today, that’s all Mondays are for.

Now on, Mondays are laughter days. Use it to ease into your work routine again.

Have good stuff lined up for you all for rest of the week. Subscribe or follow if you would like to have a daily dose of inspiration. My promise to you all is to think all day about everything and bring you only the best out of it. Tomorrow I have a very interesting story about “criticism”.

Hope you have a lovely Monday.

A story of Two Brothers – Resolve conflicts.

An old widower died a few years ago leaving his 2 sons behind, a beautifully built house in the suburbs and a shoe factory. Both the sons knew how much hard work their parents had to do to have built a house like that. After losing both the parents, this house was the only sign left of the love there was in that family for one other.

As the time passed those 2 brothers got older. Every brick of the wall in that house was once full of love, had started feeling the coming of the unknown and unexpected. There was one day when the brothers got into a conflict. There was an argument about taking a decision over selling the old shoe factory. It was that night when for the first time the center wall of that house was shaken with a threat and so it started appearing with a little crack.

It was a month later when that crack in the wall got bigger, after taking all the vibrations from the growing differences between the two brothers and their own families. Sadly, both the brothers only noticed the crack but did not make an effort to fix it.

Now, finally the shoe factory is sold today. Both the brothers are living in the same house their parents built with love but it only looks a bit different now. Where there was a little crack once, there is a whole new wall which divides the center wall and so separating the house into two equal shares. Those brothers have changed the way that house looks; because now it has separate gates each facing east and the west, so they do not have to see each other’s face anymore. The very beautiful welcoming gate on the north side is rusty and on that gate hangs a giant chain with a five lbs heavy lock.

There were efforts; time; money; dreams and feelings put in making of that house. But now, only separation; division; envy; jealousy and silence practiced there.

What would you have done when you saw that crack first appeared? Would you have let it grow if you were one of those two brothers? We all seldom have, knowingly or unknowingly helped such cracks to grow into a whole new wall. Maybe we still are doing it every day.

Time takes actions quietly. Take control now. Say no to conflicts. Grow no conflicts – at work; at home and most of all in any relationships.

Take a moment and look over your shoulder. Look for any such conflicts in which you contributed to start with. Go back, try to correct it. Apologize if need to.

United we rule. United we grow. Together can we spread more love.

Say no to conflicts

try something new today – keep it interesting

I have a habit of trying new things. That actually is a secret to keep my life interesting. No, this is not leading to another bedroom curiosity. I really mean trying something new in normal life would make it worth living.

Past few days I had tried WordPress and blogging, now just to have some change yesterday I tried cutting my hair. Never done it before. Why? Because I was just curious. And guess what, it came out awesome. It looks like one of those hair cut that I usually pay for.

That curiosity of mine is something that keeps me going. Ages ago I used to love doodling and cartooning in my free time. Now, lately just to keep my blogs interesting I started doing it again. And just for a change I also cut my hair myself yesterday.

Why is that important?

Well, in my case I get tired of same life doing things over and over. I need change. May be we all need change in our routine. I have seen lots of people complaining of being tired and bored of their same old routine. Jazz things up a bit my friend.

Do something new today. Keep your life interesting.

If you liked reading this share it and before you leave have some plantain chips. I bought them yesterday, they are good.

Right and Wrong

What is right and what is wrong? Does anyone have ever figured it out. Well, everyone reading must be thinking yes, of course it is easy to tell. I feel when we say this is right and that is wrong, we are merely differing from each other in our perception. Do you ever give it a thought that what may be feeling really wrong to you, must be the most right thing to do for someone else given in that situation?

Here I am going to take a professional example of a lawyer. A lawyer is always challenged to this question. What we do not often think of is, what if a lawyer has managed to save a criminal from going to prison. Well, what was he suppose to do? Lose a case and be non faithful to his client? or win it for him, being giving service to what he was paid for and save a real criminal from going to prison? Just to make it more complicated what if that person was really innocent?

What would you do in that case? would you save a bad guy because you want to be faithful to your customer as they pay you for your services? or would you back stab your client and be a non faithful and unprofessional for your customer, just because you wanted to do the “right thing”, as we call it.

What is the right thing for you here? To be faithful to your customer and give them best of your services? or hold on to your ethics so strong?

(Above example is not brought up to offend any professional lawyers out there.)

We all encounter situations like this every day. I know I do, and so do you. The real challenge is to get over the fact that, what we often refer to right thing and wrong thing is actually just a difference in perception from one side of the story to the other.

Never been able to completely figure it out is the beauty of life. I must admit I love it. I love it every day when I wake up and think about what surprises life will be throwing at me today.

Enjoy your life. Enjoy every second of it. One who gets away with most of the lessons learned by the time of death is the winner.

Thank you for reading.

RICH MAN – POOR MAN

The following blog is dedicated to “rich men” and “poor men”. Every rich man is poor in some way and every poor man is rich in a certain way. This actually makes a lot of sense if you sit and think about it after you are done reading it.

This following theory does not apply to every rich man or every poor man.

Many times we notice some rich people who believe in a lot of show off. A rich man puts on a nice Versace shoes; he has to have a sports car; he throws a dinner party for charity spending 1000 dollars for a plate; he makes donations and asks his name to be shown with the amount. This here, “the show off” part is what really makes him POOR in reality. Some rich people have to show that they are rich. These, “some rich men” we talk about are poor because they have to keep showing off. It is this type of thinking that actually is “poverty”.

We barely notice that a poor man does not show off that he is poor. This is funny of course if you imagine how awkward it would be, if a poor man goes on talking about how poor he is everywhere and to everyone. This poor man makes sure of having a smile on his face. Maybe he really is happy because he does not have to worry about keeping track of his money and his richness level or keep buying things that he can show off or maybe he is just sad as we assume he should be, but yet there is no part of showing off in his case. This thinking is his “richness”.

Now, the beauty of this fact is though a rich man is actually poor with his thinking of showing off and a poor man is rich by his very simple behaviour of living, they both do not seem to realize how actually poor or rich they are. Neither the rich man has a clue of his ego for having too much money to spend, I mean “to waste”, nor does the poor man has any idea how rich he may be right now with his simplicity.

It is easy to be rich without any money in your pocket. It is also very easy to be very poor though you have enough money to buy everything under this sky.

After all once again, it all comes down to “who you really are, and who you really wish to be”.

Responsibilities and Sacrifice

Big words INCOMING….!!! Run for cover.

Yup! That’s us. If I say free samples or foam party, I may attract a crowd full of people trying to stand first in the line. Why sacrifice and responsibilities are big words for us? Why do we accept those words with a feeling of fear? I think that is because we are seldom confused and questioned by our conscience; that sense of figuring out right and wrong; our principles.

Usually wrong decisions are easily made when one has to deal with sacrificing and being responsible at the same time. We have grown up considering that the more responsible we become the more sacrifices we have to make.  That “have to” part we think of is where we go wrong.

Some of us change our behaviour with our co-workers when being promoted, thinking we are better now than the people we were surrounded by; we start reconsidering our relationships with people we work with. We think we are more responsible and we must act more matured now. But my friend open your eyes, and it will be not so hard for you to think of one leader who is goofy and easy going, yet a very good manager (I have used the word “manager” in a way that it sounds like being a good manager is part of being a good “leader”, because that is true. Leaders on top, and then comes managers. Not what we can go deep into in this blog but later) at the same time.

Image

Some of us think being married or having kids is going to make us give up things that we always enjoyed doing. This life pleasures of finding love forever or starting a family sometimes sound to us like the major cause of saying goodbye to all our “dreams”. It is not true. It is what we believe and what is absolutely wrong. This is how we usually murder our own inner happiness by assuming things.

Having family responsibilities or increasing workload should not cut you off from what you hold close to you. In my previous article, “Art of trying hard” I talked about something similar. About finding and holding onto the type of art we all are gifted with, trying hard not to give up ever. Starting family or getting promoted are major reasons when and why people change tracks of their life. The way we see it, people get lost once starting a family or being more famous, having no time because they have become workaholic. Well, just for once think, maybe they are not around as much because they have finally found what they were really looking for or been working hard for years. They are just too busy being involved into something they really enjoy now.

But talking about people who literally change themselves to be a person they never wished they were, I must question “Was that sacrifice worth?” Ask yourself is it worth giving up things you enjoyed doing once just because it is “YOU” who think there are more responsibilities on your head, there are more people you need to take care of personally.

If you had find something you were passionate about, why not hold on to it anymore because you are starting a family? If you had faithful friends who also accepted you the way you were, then why give up meeting them just because you have a better job and more responsibilities?

My wife wants to be a singer. She is really good at classical Indian music. She had been learning this from a good teacher from past 2 years in India. She is worried once she moves here to Canada with me how her future dreams will get affected.

All I told her was, “hold on to your dream and your passion and we will find a way”.

Now, when I met more Indians in Canada, I found out here in Canada also there are few evenings like the ones you can find in India, with the events of classical Indian music. Now, she is relaxed too. She is happy if she can’t participate or get into one of those teams as a singer at least she will be happy to enjoy attending those events. And I swear to God, the day I win that lottery I am after or become rich somehow she is getting her own album. She is satisfied knowing what she saw coming as a sacrifice turns out to be more of a “dream come true”.

If you have a passion and if you nurture your passion like your baby, there will be a good price that you will be paid. I believe that dreams come true. Question is, do you? I have already experienced, and I keep experiencing it every day that being a married man I did not give up anything that once I called my passion. While lecturing the world if I must confess, I may have been bit less around my friends while being a full time working cook and trying to be a part time writer too, just so that I can make some difference out there, but I know somewhere that my relations with my friends are of higher values and once when I am taking a break I will be catching my breath with them, while we all stay busy running this race for now.

There are sacrifices made and there are responsibilities taken every day. All we have to do is not make a mistake in our choices and if we do make one, we have to be smart enough to realize not to repeat it from the lessons we learn.

Building the future (help kids grow better)

Have you ever referred a few quotes from “Swami Vivekananda”? An Indian monk, who was one of the most influential leader of spirituality. When you read few of his words you would notice he is trying to inspire the “youth” of today. It is specially the young generation he inspires with his words to bring revolution. He did not do that for Indians only but for the people all over the world.

If there is a lesson I have learned from reading many of all his words and if I would ever be asked to put all of that into one line, I would say “make sure your kids learn well and learn right”. Because, the kids; the new generation today is going to hold the key to our future. We have to put efforts into them in order to have our secured future. I don’t mean to sound selfish there. We have to make sure the future world is looking like a better place to live for them. We are not going to have lots of years to live if the hell on earth was created instead of heaven. It would be them left behind to deal with it. We are responsible.

I like to spend time with my niece mostly in a way that she gets away with some learning. If nothing at least I can be sure if she is not with her parents, she needs to be around people who are good for her character building.

She is only 5. Last weekend I spent time with her making our own story book because I could not take her to the library. I am still waiting on my fiction to get published but I realized this little story book of 5 pages is something I can call “my first book ever”. I tried to teach her a bit of optimism. Following are the pictures of all those pages from that little story book.

That story book was produced last week when I was tired of noticing her complaining and not satisfied with what she has. Believe me or not, “This worked”.

Another day she was asking about getting a board game. Sure we can afford a few, but why should you spend money on something you can make at home that would help kids being more creative and also learn to do things by them selves.

This is a picture of the board game we made about a month ago.

Image

All she likes is Dora and Disney princess. All we did is get a few stickers from the store, crayons are always handy and so are the markers and we have a new board game. Few of you people may be annoyed thinking “how to keep kids busy”. Well making this game kept us busy for at least an hour or two. Later on she is even more busy playing this because this is designed the way she wants it. Her favorite characters, her favorite scene and her imagination combined with my creative side.

Believe me, no matter how hard it is to keep a kid busy but if you spend time with them I promise they will grow up listening to you or at least hopes are high.

The building of the world tomorrow is totally up to the kids today. If we want a better world, we need to have thinkers, creators, artists and most of all optimists.

(The pictures and ideas presented here or in any of my blogs are my personal creations and clicks. I am crossing those limits of copyrighting. I expect you do the same.)

The story book idea I have personally tried myself for few days, it seem to help.

HOPE YOU ENJOYED READING THIS.

Blogging – The real deal

Alright Bloggers, Ready to hate me? Because here I am going to try hard to help you realize the harsh reality.

This blog is nothing meant to be negative at all. It is just to the point very practical work of mine.

This is my new-born brain child and if reading this offends you as a blogger, think again. It is not meant for offending you at all, this is just for people who do not notice the other side of the blogging. You know the side that is other than, “you are already famous person, so you don’t have to work hard to be a famous blogger“.

At some point we all started blogging and that started with one or other reason. For some of us it was just a place to rant; some thought to share what they think the world should know; some want to show off; some want to make money with it; some want to spread awareness – all those reasons are good. If you have a reason to blog, that fact itself is good enough that you have a reason. Image

In my upcoming fiction book “HOW TO WRITE A BOOK” there is a story of a young Indian boy who is 18, leaving his home country for first time and meeting people all around the world travelling from one country to another to learn cooking from the best of the teachers he can find. While learning to cook and becoming a good chef he also participates in a child sponsorship program. Just at the beginning of all of that, he looks at the website of the company, which is running this sponsorship/charity program and reads all the rules and restriction the sponsor has to obey while communicating with the kid through letters. Reading that makes him realize how “human being” that is  so smart of their brains, has actually managed to complicate things in the world. We needed banks but just having our money safe and having them dispensing at our need was not enough, so now we juggle with all the loans, and payments and then retirement savings plan and there is so much more. He realizes that inventing fire and wheel was not enough of course, but now things are just too complicated.

Today, I was busy working on that story ahead and I realized that same sort of feeling sometimes all of us may have had when we started “Blogging” .When all of you at some point in the past were nothing, who may have lots of blogs and fans and followers now (if you are just a reader and not a blogger or a writer, then this line does not apply to you but keep reading this gets interesting or at least I think so). When a person starts blogging, faces an issues like,

  • where are all the readers?
  • why no views?

Image

Then that fresh blogger suddenly starts looking for answers to all those problems, then he discovers “Tagging” so that way the blogger can drive people to read their blog and increase “Traffic” to the blog. Then a blogger finds out “OH ! So, I must have a routine to publish my posts. I see. ” Then a blogger comes up with a set schedule, then after few more days or in some desperate cases “hours”, a blogger learns more techniques of increasing – traffic; daily views and clicks and so on. Then comes a stage where a blogger cannot be at peace without writing a blog, which eventually leads a blogger to keep checking if the traffic to his blog is increasing or not. A blogger wants to check that progress even when he/she wakes up to pee at 2.47am.

Sometimes from having nothing to do with one thing, our whole world starts rotating around that very same thing. It happens before we even know it. But, its okay. If you keep up a positive perception it is more like a feeling of, “Hey, congratulations! You are a passionate blogger.” But only poor blogger knows how much struggle he/she has made to get those 1247 views till date and having 74 followers from 12 different countries. Not an easy task.

It is so interesting how one came up with the idea of “blogging” and evolved it to this stage. Now, let me bring you that part from my book again. Sometimes we love complicating things. We have already started long ago. We will never stop. We will keep finding new things and keep making them more complicated everyday. But, do not worry. It is totally normal; it is okay and most of all it will still be under control like everything is now or is it?

This blog is dedicated to all the bloggers who have worked really hard to get where they are today, feeling happy and satisfied about it. I just have one prayer for everyone reading this. Whether you are a reader; a blogger; a cook; a doctor; a garbage man; a bus driver; a police-man, I pray that almighty gives all of us the sense to realize “what we have, when we have is enough”. I pray that he would help all of us from not going crazy asking for more than we can handle.

Good luck !!! Happy reading. Happy writing.
